Thank you, Cold Steel, for your beautifully expressed commentary. You've given me a great deal to ponder.

jesus, mark 9-40 (nwt).
the jehovahs witnesses assert exclusivity.
that is, they are the only true christian faith.

Thanks, Phizzy, for the back story!
I have to get back to what I only glanced at initially. Yes, too sad and unnecessary.
Best.

Comment from Milton Henschel, IN SEARCH OF CHRISTIAN FREEDOM, p. 232:
"And what will the brothers do if we give them more free time?
Probably use it in watching TV."
Ray Franz's Response:
"Whether they consciously think of it in this connection, the men in positions of leadership also know that the Watch Tower organization has produced a publishing empire of tremendous size, one that has taken decades to build up. That publishing system with its large, expensive branch offices and printeries and the impressive, multi-storied dwellings for those operating these, are a source of considerable pride and a frequently cited evidence of divine blessing and prosperity. Any diminishing of the pressure on Witnesses to engage in door-to-door activity with the publications flowing from that system could eventually cause that empire to crumble or require its being largely dismantled. I seriously believe that for many of those in the organizational leadership, the very idea of this is unthinkable."
Thank you, cultBgone, for posting.
A review of McEwan's novel is in our local paper.
Best.

In many Ian McEwan novels, there is a moment of crisis or extremity that shatters his characters’ lives, reveals the innermost workings of their hearts or triggers a reassessment of everything they’ve believed. [. . . ]
The pivotal moment in Mr. McEwan’s suspenseful but very spindly new novel, “The Children Act,” concerns a ruling that Fiona Maye, a British High Court judge, must make on the case of a 17-year-old boy named Adam Henry, who has refused a lifesaving blood transfusion on religious grounds. (He and his parents are strict Jehovah’s Witnesses.) If the judge grants a hospital permission to overrule Adam’s wishes and go ahead with the transfusion, his chances for recovery are decent; if she refuses, and Adam is not transfused quickly, his prognosis is grim: He could die or suffer brain and kidney damage. Fiona’s involvement in the case will not only have a momentous impact on Adam and his family, but will also mark a turning point in her life, changing forever the way she thinks about herself.

Thanks, Scully:
The trailer is visually and aurally stunning; the text may be enigmatic, yet it has served to whet my appetite.
I WANT MORE!
How's that for a descriptive blurb?

sometimes people make special connections to animals.
sometimes they bond very deeply and are real friends.
yesterday was the end of such a friendship that lasted ten wonderful years.
I'm very sorry, Chris. All of us understand and grieve with you.

Thanks, Blondie, for helping me prepare for today's lesson. I'm out of ink, so I had to write it out by hand.
You asked if Sarie and Martinus have children. They have 3.
Somehow, it seems Sarie's declaration of faith sounds very Watchtoweresque.

i read an article in the ny times recently discussing the negative nature of social media.
it discussed why instagram is so much more pernicious than facebook.
professionals and govts can use facebook to post new thoughts or ideas, even restaurants post specials and menus etc.. instagram on the other hand encourages people to post in a distilled down fashion the best parts of their lives.
This is where social media stalking comes into play. Don't deny it. Everyone does it. The problem arises from people who see only the best of their friends lives. They in turn think their own lives don't measure up then become depressed. I know, I know this affects mostly weak minded people who don't have a grip on reality. Still, it's a phenomenon of the 21st Century.
Well, I don't know about the weak minded part, but you nailed the portion I highlighted. That's precisely how it hit me initially: my life was nothing compared to the happy family life of others portrayed on IG/FB. Of course, I have gotten over that negativity.
We have a very large JW FB community up and down the state that reaches out far and wide . . .
Thanks!
